Archives Volunteers

We have some exciting new opportunities to help explore our archive!

Brass Bands England is looking for a number of volunteers to support the Brass Band Archive in reopening to researchers and the public as it moves to its new home in the University of Huddersfield’s Heritage Quay. Volunteers will work with the project’s full-time Archivists in a number of different roles, ranging from supporting the organising and packaging of the music to specialist knowledge required to validate artifacts relevant to the cultural heritage of the brass band community. There are roles that require travelling to the BBE offices to work with the physical objects, but also roles that can be carried out remotely via computer. Some roles will require specialist knowledge and will suit those who want to share their knowledge and experience, but there are non-specialist roles available for candidates who wish to use the project to learn about brass band history at the same time.

Roles can be carried out flexibly depending on available time, although most roles will require some ability to operate partially in office hours. It is expected that volunteers will be able to offer regular time to the project, although this could be carried out in single longer periods for those located further away. Training on using necessary equipment will be provided.

The number of roles will be limited depending on the available time candidates offer to ensure Covid-safe working practices are maintained at all times while working in the BBE offices. Volunteers will receive expenses payments to cover travel and subsistence when required for the role.
